Committees
Positions are available on various committees for Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County. If you are interested in serving on any of the committees listed below, e-mail Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County.
Church Relations Committee
The Church Relations Committee will seek to strengthen the support of the affiliate’s work by gaining volunteers, prayer, and financial resources from all community churches. The committee will work in partnership with churches by extending the opportunity for members to engage in ministry by becoming involved with HfHBC.
Construction Committee
The construction committee needs people who have an interest in or may have knowledge of home construction. This can include surveyors, architects, people who know building codes, carpenters, concrete workers, plumbers, electricians, utility people and building supply people. There is a lot to learn about building houses. If you have any knowledge at all, or if you would like some on-the-job training, please join us!
Family Services Committee
This committee is made up of people willing to interview and work with families who have made application to be a partner family with Habitat. The Family Services committee members will also check to make certain that the applicant families meet the criteria established by Habitat for homeownership. People who have good “social/people” skills to work with partner families both before and after construction to be sure the families know what is required in the area of sweat equity, to provide a record of that time requirement, and to help in the transition of true homeownership. These sponsor/ advocate/ friends may also help the families in the areas of budgeting and home maintenance.
Finance
The Finance Committee is made up of local residents who have a strong background in finance to make recommendations to the Board of Directors and the affiliate on it’s financial well being. The Finance Committee reviews the yearly budget, the audit results as well as the monthly financials to ensure the affiliate is moving in the right direction.
Fundraising Committee
This committee recruits volunteers to identify and approach potential donors (individuals, churches, corporations) for cash, volunteers, “in-kind” gifts of material, labor, property, or support or sponsorships. If you have knowledge or if you would like some on-the-job training, please join us on the Fund Raising Committee. This committee also needs people who can develop fundraising material and help with grant writing. You will be surprised to find how eager people are to give when they understand the principles of Habitat!
ReStore
The ReStore committee is charged with developing ideas to market the store to the community, offering opportunities to bring volunteers to the store, and finding unique ways to let the retail community know about the opportunity to donate to the organization. Retail experience is helpful but not required to serve on this committee.
Site Selection
If you are in real estate or familiar with the countryside of Baldwin County, you will be an asset to this committee. The Site Selection committee is always on the lookout for new land acquisition opportunities for Habitat including donation of land and purchasing at a reasonable price land available for Habitat Homes.
Volunteer Committee
The people who serve on this committee help organize and contact other volunteers to set up time and places to work…whether in the office, or on the job site. This group also keeps track of volunteer hours and sets criteria for volunteer recognition.
WomenBuild
WomenBuild is Habitat’s volunteer program for women who want to learn construction skills and make a difference by building homes and communities. No previous construction experience is required. If you want to learn - we can teach you! There are several ways for you to be involved and all WomenBuild opportunities come with hands-on training. WomenBuild began in the United States in 1991 when a group of women in Charlotte, NC completed the first women-build Habitat for Humanity house. Locally the Baldwin County WomenBuild raised the roof on the first women built home in 1991. In 2009 they are celebrating their 10th anniversary completing their 10th home in Foley.
The WomenBuild Steering committee works throughout the year to raise the funds to build the sponsored house.
